Live-In Sober Companion Support

A live-in arrangement brings support into the household. The decision involves privacy, daily coverage, family boundaries, rest, and a plan for increasing independence—not simply a number of nights.

Define what live-in actually means

Living at or near the residence does not mean continuous active duty. Before relying on an arrangement, ask for the schedule, on-duty responsibilities, rest periods, and any relief staffing. Overnight presence and overnight awake coverage are different requests.

The Firm’s Recovery & Wellness Guides provide agreed nonclinical companion support. If a person needs continuous medical or psychiatric observation, obtain qualified clinical guidance about the appropriate service.

Decide whether the home can support the arrangement

Discuss private space, sleeping arrangements, household members, visitors, pets, meals, transport, and use of shared areas. The person receiving support should understand and participate in the proposed arrangement.

Family members and the Guide need a common understanding of boundaries. A companion is not a household employee for unrelated duties, a security service, or someone who can force an adult to remain at home.

Build an ordinary day, then review it

A proposed day might include preparing for appointments, practicing a routine, accompanying agreed activities, and reviewing practical next steps. These are examples for planning, not a fixed program or promise about what a particular assignment includes.

Define what is private, which updates may be shared, and who receives them. Keep licensed treatment and medication decisions with the treating professionals.

Use duration as a planning frame

A 14–30-day implementation period or longer stay can be discussed when the request calls for repeated daily support. The proposed duration should follow the person’s needs, consent, practical circumstances, and any relevant clinical input.

Set review dates and an end or step-down decision. Consider fewer companion hours, scheduled coaching, or completion when appropriate. An extension needs an explicit scope and cost discussion.

Compare the full living and coverage cost

Ask about Guide fees, lodging, meals, transport, travel days, rest and relief, and cancellation. Compare live-in cost assumptions rather than accepting a daily price as a complete budget.

Use the hiring checklist and request an intake. Availability and household fit must be confirmed before any stay is arranged.

Frequently asked questions

Does live-in mean 24-hour awake coverage?

No. Residence, on-duty hours, overnight expectations, rest, and relief coverage must be explicitly defined. Do not infer continuous awake staffing.

Can a live-in companion provide medical monitoring?

A nonclinical companion is not a substitute for medical monitoring, detoxification, psychiatric care, or emergency services.

How long should a live-in assignment last?

Discuss a proposed duration and review points based on the person’s needs and circumstances. No single duration fits every request.
