Sober Companion Cost: What to Compare

Sober companion pricing has several parts: the professional fee, travel time and expenses, coverage hours, staffing, and engagement length. Here is how to read the structure and understand what a proposal covers.

Start with the assignment, not a headline rate

The professional fee pays for the agreed companion work. Depending on the proposal, it may be expressed by the hour, day, or defined assignment. The total depends on the work and coverage being arranged, not only the number of calendar days.

The Firm provides assignment-specific proposals. Use the assignment models to describe the requested dates, location, daily coverage, and responsibilities.

The seven parts of companion pricing

Ask for these items to be identified separately so the total is clear before engagement.

  • Professional fee: the agreed companion work, covered hours, charging unit, and additional-time terms.
  • Travel day: professional time spent reaching or returning from the assignment, separate from on-assignment coverage.
  • Expenses: flights, ground travel, lodging, meals, baggage, and approved itinerary changes.
  • Awake overnight coverage: active overnight duty is a different staffing requirement from sleeping at the residence. Identify the hours and fee specifically.
  • Relief personnel: if the schedule requires another person to cover rest or time off, identify their time and related travel or lodging costs.
  • Minimum engagement: the minimum hours, days, or commitment in the proposed assignment, plus cancellation and early-completion terms.
  • Extensions: additional professional time, coverage, travel changes, and expenses beyond the initial scope, with approval before the work is extended.

Three quotes can represent three different jobs

For a transport-only request, compare the journey, waiting time, destination handoff, and what happens if admission changes. For a 3–7-day transition, compare arrival support, daily hours, appointments, and the final handoff. For a 14–30-day implementation or longer stay, compare staffing assumptions, reviews, rest and relief, and the step-down plan.

A lower daily figure may exclude travel or cover fewer hours. A higher total may include work you do not need. Ask each provider to price the same proposed scope before evaluating the difference.

Plan the total before committing

Build a proposed budget from professional fees plus agreed travel and third-party expenses. Keep a separate allowance for changes you choose to authorize. Ask which expenses require advance approval and when invoices are due.

Do not assume health insurance will pay a private companion fee. Ask the provider and insurer about the specific service and documentation; a website statement is not a coverage determination. Discuss financial limits during intake so the proposed scope can be evaluated against them.

Define the next decision before the first day

Ask when the assignment will be reviewed and who can approve an extension. A possible next step might be fewer companion hours, scheduled recovery coaching, other continuing support, or completion. These are choices to review, not outcomes included in a fee.

Use the hiring guide to compare the proposed person and terms as well as cost. Request a no-charge intake for The Firm’s service needs discussion.

Frequently asked questions

Does The Firm publish a fixed sober companion price?

No fixed rate is published here. Request a proposal for the assignment’s dates, location, responsibilities, staffing, and expenses.

Is travel included?

Do not assume it is. Ask the proposal to identify travel-day fees, transportation, lodging, meals, and change costs separately.

Does paying for longer support guarantee recovery?

No. Fees purchase the agreed professional work, not abstinence, treatment retention, or a recovery outcome.
