Guidance for families under pressure

Education Consulting and Therapeutic Placement

The Firm helps families evaluate therapeutic boarding schools, residential programs, wilderness alternatives, young-adult transition programs, and other specialized education or treatment settings with the same discipline used in clinical placement.

The label is not the assessment

A polished campus or familiar category does not establish fit. We begin with the student or young adult: safety, substance use, psychiatric needs, learning profile, executive functioning, trauma history, family dynamics, prior placements, educational goals, and the conditions required for progress.

What families should evaluate

Programs differ materially in staffing, licensing, clinical depth, academics, family involvement, crisis capability, medication management, peer culture, length of stay, and transition planning.

  • Accreditation, licensing, and oversight appropriate to the service
  • Clinical leadership and access to qualified medical or psychiatric care
  • Academic credit, learning support, and school transfer implications
  • Family therapy, communication, and parent expectations
  • Safety policies, restraint practices, grievance processes, and incident reporting
  • Substance-use capability and co-occurring-disorder competence
  • Discharge criteria, aftercare, and reintegration planning
  • Total cost, exclusions, refund terms, and realistic length of stay

The placement must fit the family—not erase it

Education consulting applies the same family principles to a different decision. The goal is not to outsource control to a program. We clarify what connection, compassion, boundaries, and influence should look like before placement, during the program, and when the student returns. The recommendation and family plan are individualized to the student and family.

Placement is the beginning, not the finish line

The Firm can help coordinate records, admissions, transportation, family messaging, case communication, and the return to home, school, work, or a lower level of support. Recommendations are individualized after assessment and no outcome is guaranteed.

Common questions

Do you only recommend boarding schools?

No. The appropriate path may be local outpatient support, assessment, residential treatment, a therapeutic school, academic support, a young-adult transition program, coaching, or a combination.

Can you help after a prior placement failed?

Yes. We examine what the prior program addressed, what it missed, how the transition was handled, and what has changed before recommending another step.

A better plan can start with one conversation.
